Bring the difficult table

The cohort clinic

A practical half-day format for app teams with one disputed revenue cohort table, model or definition.

The cohort clinic

Suitable questions

The clinic is designed for a narrow question that benefits from working through the evidence together. Recent sessions have covered:

  • Whether annual and monthly plan cohorts can be compared on the same payback chart
  • Why finance net revenue does not reconcile to store proceeds
  • How to define a payer when someone lapses and later returns
  • Whether a retention improvement is visible in sufficiently mature cohorts
  • Which costs belong in a contribution-based LTV calculation

It is not suitable for building a full customer model from raw event data, auditing several billing systems or settling an attribution contract. Those require a scoped engagement.

Before the session

Send the decision statement, the current chart or workbook, a field dictionary and no more than two supporting queries or exports. Remove names, emails, device identifiers and other personal fields. We review the material three working days before meeting and confirm whether the session can answer the question.

On the day

The first hour tests cohort membership, dates, denominators and revenue treatment. The second reproduces the disputed calculation. The final hour compares defensible alternatives and records the implication for the decision.

You receive the annotated workbook or query, a definitions sheet and a one-page action note within two working days.

Clinics run remotely on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The fee is £950 + VAT for up to five participants.

Ask about the next clinic date.
